🧩 E-Learning Development

Bringing Instructional Design to Life with Visual Clarity and Interactive Precision

This case study showcases my ability to design, develop, and deliver high-impact eLearning modules that combine sound instructional theory with thoughtful visual design and technical mastery of Articulate Storyline.

🔍 Project Overview

Over the past decade, I’ve developed and edited hundreds of custom eLearning modules used by learners across Florida and beyond. These projects supported a wide range of audiences—from kindergarten students to adults in professional development programs.

Each module I built was designed to engage learners, support knowledge transfer, and work reliably across platforms and devices—while meeting tight timelines and evolving technical requirements.

  • Translate instructional goals into intuitive visual designs

  • Build interactive and accessible modules in Articulate Storyline

  • Balance creative design with usability and long-term maintenance

🎯 Objectives

ELearning slides emulating an hands-on science lesson with a video of motorized car pulling a tape through a spark timer box, a quiz to select starting marks on the spark tape, and quiz to type distances of the marks with a close-up view of a ruler.

👩‍🏫 Instructional Design Approach

  • Applied Gagné’s Nine Events, Bloom’s Taxonomy, and Mayer’s principles

  • Designed clear objectives, scenario-based content, and practice activities

  • Used PowerPoint and Word for planning and storyboarding

🛠️ Tools: Word • PowerPoint • Internal style guides

💻 Articulate Storyline Development

  • Built:

    • Drag-and-drops, sliders, dials, and branching paths

    • Custom quiz types and freeform interactions

    • JavaScript-powered enhancements for advanced functionality

  • Used variables, layers, and triggers for modular interactivity

  • Ensured responsiveness across devices and browsers

🎨 Visual & Graphic Design

  • Created layouts to reduce cognitive load and highlight key content

  • Designed custom icons, infographics, and branded visual templates

  • Used motion and transitions selectively to support learning

  • Applied consistent visual identity when required (e.g., state standards)

✅ Accessibility & QA

  • Designed for WCAG 2.1 from the start

  • Added alt text, closed captions, focus order, and keyboard navigation

  • Personally created 50+ accessible versions of Storyline modules

  • Tested with screen readers and manual walkthroughs

  • Implemented and tested xAPI statements

📌 Featured Projects

  • The title slide for an eLearning module shows text with a castle, a catapult, a huge stone, medieval banners, and the bars of a histogram in the sky behind the castle.

Reflection

This work represents the core of what I love about instructional design: translating complex ideas into meaningful, visually engaging, and accessible experiences.

Articulate Storyline became more than just a tool—it was a canvas for creating impactful learning.

🎸 Fun Fact:

I play guitar, where theory, practice, and creativity come together to connect with listeners—just like in learning design, where structure, flow, and real-world application drive meaningful outcomes.
